The San Francisco Giants beat one of the best pitchers in baseball Monday night, winning 7-1 over Chris Carpenter and the St. Louis Cardinals. The Giants and Cards are now locked at 1-game a piece. Still, it’s too early to declare the Cardinals dead as some of the San Francisco faithful have already done:
Game 2 started well for the Giants, with a leadoff homer in the bottom of the 1st by Angel Pagan:
In the 8th inning, Ryan Theriot hit a two-run single to left giving the Giants a 7-1 lead they never relinquished.
Theriot was playing for the stellar infielder. Marco Scuturo, who was injured by Matt Holliday in an aggressive slide into second base.
But Scutaro got his revenge in the 4th innning:
Scutaro left after 5 innings and was heading to the x-ray room for a closer look at his ailing left hip.
But the Giants played brilliantly behind starter Ryan Vogelsong, who pitched seven strong innings, giving up just one run on four hits.
Now it’s on to St. Louis for Game 3 on Wednesday.
